  • This is to the person who did not do their homework (the commentator). The Lab was not only org. in Nova Scotia it was org. in Comox(442),Trenton(424) and Greenwood(413)and then in 1975 it went to (103) in Gander. Also its org. colour was not how it is seen here but it was red, blue and white when we got it from the Brits. Thought I would give you a little insight into the truth about this very Loved chopper.

  • the commentator meant that this Lab was stationed out of Greenwood NS and that it org from that base for this show.

  • What is the difference between this and CH-47 Chinook? Is it a completely different helicopter??

  • @sdrfgvrfgvsfravgdsvS

Yes it could and launch a small Zodiac off the ramp when in the water.

Former Lab flight Engineer out of Comox.

  • I remember hearing back then that for every 1 hour in flight, the Labradors required 100 hours of service at the base. Obviously thats for the whole fleet, but still it's hard to believe that Columbia actually bought and flies these old dogs.

  • Some of the early Labs (most) were to a different standard than the orginal 6 Labs. These were named Voyagers and were used by the Canadian Army until all air operations were intergrated into the Canadian Forces. The older Labs were updated to the same standard as the slightly newer Voyagers and they all got yellow paint. In 78 I believe, they were all exstentivly updated again. I do have a picture of 2 Voyagers supposedly taken in the early 80's with green paint and day glow rescue markings.

  • I live in trenton, soo i was so use to these badboys flying over all the time.

they sound soo sexy. I think we only have 1 or 2 Griffons here now. atleast i've only seen that many on the tarmac at once.

  • I lived in greenwood NS for 7 years. just a few km from the base. between the lab, and the hornets, there is no better sound to wake up to in the morning :)

  • Buds you need to re-read my comment, I never said the Brits made them, get your eyes checked out. I said they used them, no need to get mad because I corrected you on the chinook, lab thing. It's kind of funny how I am the only one who knows there actual real name from the company. You need to read all comments not just parts.
