This is part 1 of a series of behind the scenes-videos of a shooting for a firefighter calendar with the FD Grossgoltern near Hanover in Germany - 12 sets in just two days... They were all real firefighters, no professional models. i did this with a lot of SB-800 and SB-900, the Elinchrom Quadra and the Nikon D3. Have fun, Part 2 is in the pipeline (did you ever see models spit on a photographer?) ;-)

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing. The last photo was hilarious.

I have a question, though. How can you ensure that the reflective shirt did not shine? Thanks.

    *pardon my English.

  • @martosc13 Hi, thank you for your comment. What did you mean with reflective shirt? Can you specify a time code in the video? :-)

  • @simonsenphoto Hi, thanks for the response.

For example, at 1:59, the reflective material on his right hand was lit and shiny, whereas the ones on the chest and on his left hand didn't. I assume it's because of how you angle the flashes. Anyway, I was just wondering, do you have any tips on how to make sure it doesn't shine too bright? Thanks again :-)

  • @martosc13 You're right - it's at most the angle. At the moment you mentioned his right hand reflected one of the SB-800 on his right side in a bad angle directly to the camera...

I hope this helped you out? If not, please feel free to ask a further question, you're welcome! :-)

  • @simonsenphoto Thanks for the response. So, I guess the best tip is to trial and error; take the shot and check, right? :-). Cheers.
