Is avoiding the knife and alle the techniques even possible if the attacker uses strength and swiftness, or how will that be compensated? Im really interested in Aikido, but im unsure, if this works on the streets.

@ParkFight aikido is really effective but its always depends on the attacker, a good way to be effective is the be fast, dont show the attacker know anything about your technique, right when he get is knife out, BAM! disarm, break is arm and *voila* he cant do shit after

people !!! this is a demonstration not a real life attack if you were standing in front of aikido guy you wouldn't realise and he would take yoou down ! d-.-b

aikido roles

aikido isn't very effective... Let apart against a blade!

Yeah, ikkyo wouldn't be the best choice. But then again, this is just a kata.
We CANNOT judge the effectiveness of Aikido when only the BASIC techniques are demonstrated? There are so many small details that need to be added in the execution of a given technique for you to see how practical Aikido really is.

As much as I enjoy practising aikido, I have to admit that the knife work in aikido is fake as hell. Get someone with an idea how to use a knife, give him a tanto and let him do a free attack - I will guarantee you that you will get cut - the only question is how badly. In aikido we don't tend to swap the hands to hold the knife and other things - you will be surprised what someone can do with a knife that you would never think of as an aikido practitioner. Enjoy :)
