Two city council candidates in Cave Creek, Arizona 'cut cards' to see who would take over a seat on the town council. The candidate drawing the highest card would then be declared the winner. AdamTrenk drew a King of Hearts while Tom McGuire drew a 6 of Hearts. Adam Trenk won the draw and was declared the winner.
The last time a deck of cards was reputed to be used in this manner was in Show Low, Arizona in the 1800s. The story goes that Show Low received its name when C.E. Cooley and Marion Clark decided there was not enough room for both of them in their settlement. The two men agreed to let a game of cards decide who was to move. According to the story, Clark said, "If you can show low, you win." Cooley turned up the deuce of clubs and replied, "Show low it is."

Very cool display of democracy. Send decks of cards to Iran, maybe they can figure it out as well. Best of luck to both gentlemen in their future endeavors.
