  • I just got a lecture from my teacher about how Monette mouthpieces waste your chops....

  • Well, you can't blame anything on the equipment. It's usually the player. I have never had any problems with any type of mouthpieces. Ever. Your teacher is incredibly mistaken and I'd like to know why he would give you totally false information like that. It's really a shame and indicative of someone who has not really learned how to play the instrument correctly. Hate to say it, but it's the truth. Wasted chops comes from messed up embouchures. Period. Nothing else. Any pro will tell you that.

  • hey man, i read your jazz trumpet book. I think your one of the best players out there.

  • Thanks Gallo, I appreciate that......take good care and all the best to you.....S.

  • Eloquently said Scotty; I feel the same way. A friend of mine is coming to the Basie Orchestra show tonight (2/19/10) and he will melt hearing you. You are the real deal my friend, enjoy!

  • I whole-heartedly agree. I've actually been playing Monette pieces for the past 2 years and have found them to be amazing! I'm also due to receive my B993 in the next two weeks, so I'm pretty pumped!

By the way Mr. Barnhart, I recently bought your CD...and god damn that's a great album! It's definitely up there with the Wynton CD's I have. I just hope one day to develop a tone quality similar to yours or Mr. Marsalis'. In my humble opinion, you and Mr. Marsalis have the greatest tones ever.

  • Sorry, I agree with you, can't blame the equipment. I've not spent any time playing Monette mouthpieces. To each his own, and just know the instrument. I should try one instead of passing an opinion I didn't necessarily understand.

Clearly, many trumpet players are expressing fantastic sounds via Monettes and a wide selection of other popular brands.
