MPs of the 49th Parliament of New Zealand were officially sworn in at a special ceremony in Parliament this afternoon.

The 122 MPs, 33 of whom are new to Parliament, have all sworn allegiance to the Queen.

New Mangere MP Sua William Sio had wanted to be sworn in in Samoan, but was refused. That did not stop him - he gave his oath in both Samoan and English.

National MP Lockwood Smith has been sworn in as the new Speaker of the House.

  • The Queen was trying to hustle money out of the England government, its about time New Zealand goes 'republic' and allow honorable Kiwis to make the ultimate decisions for all other Kiwis who live in New Zealand. Australia owns most of our businesses. Time for national party to put power back into the New Zealand dollar and make more cents. If I'm elected into power in the future then we are changing our flag to all black and a silver kiwi will be on it! Thanks for your time $ento.

  • Your Speaker is a Prat.
