I had a chance to try out a Glidecam HD-1000 for a couple of weeks - I planned to post some test footage, but at the same time I'm learning how to use Adobe's Creative Suite. So I thought I'd put together a quick animation showing how the Glidecam works.

I shot the footage and recorded my voice with my Canon Vixia HFS10, all mounted on the Glidecam (except where I note otherwise). I created the "3-d" part of animation and put it all together in After Effects, using elements I'd drawn in Illustrator. It's a bit rough, but it takes a long time to render in After Effects, so after I was done and noticed things I thought I might like to change, I decided to leave well enough alone.

  • It shouldn't shake left and right too much - I haven't found that. If you have a viewfinder, did you open it up before balancing? One other thing is that while you have one hand on the handle, you should have the other hand very loosely on the post - not supporting any weight, but keeping it from it's slow pendulum-like swinging and also prepared to pan or tilt as needed.
