The Bureau of Labor Statistics calculates the CPI. Its hard to explain how exactly they do it, but i can definitely tell you that the way it is calculated has changed. Again i'm not purposing this as an absolute solution to inflation, but it is in my opinion a leading cause.

ok I see, that would be a way to keep them in check. how can they start to figure in all prices, gas and whatever else they dont figure in. also who figures these numbers economists not related to the fed?

Well the fed doesn't come up with these figures as far as i know. My point is that the problem can be fixed without eliminating the Fed.

basically you are saying that they are flooding the market with more cash, and that CPI is not counting everything that we pay for thus making it seem like the value of the dollar is still strong hence the steady or low inflation rate? maybe the fed doesnt want the CPI to be correct, kinda like when the got away from the M3 I dont think they want people to know how flooded the market is and that the dollar is so deflated that it would spin heads.
