Recently MJ Demarco stated that I was "patently wrong" that it was important to follow your passion in business, here is my response.

  • dude you've got "selling to a need" wrong, he meant selling to someone that want something, basic marketing

  • @lgrisotto - First is English your second language? Secondly I know what the man meant, I stand by what I said. MJ and I are very friendly with each other by the way and have a ton or respect for each other.

Need - something people have to have

Want - something people buy because they can

He said sell to a need, I do figure it was just a turn of phrase but heck this is a friendly YouTube feud. I doubt he is going to let me get away with anything similar on his next response.

  • You video is not working?? This must be a passionate video...cool!! Can't wait to watch it!!

  • My point is: it all comes down to what you're happy with. MJ is right about some businesses being more profitable than others. Some that will give you millions/year, others just won't.

But if you're happy with what you mentioned (a $150k business), and you can support your family, meet all your basic needs, and you can live with that.. aren't you in the Fastlane then?

Again, it all comes down to what you want in life and what your goals are. If those are met, you've hit the jackpot.

    My $0.02

  • I can totally understand where you are coming from Jack. but also MJ.

As you said, he's very focused on corporate business that will sell stuff to MILLIONS of people.. He's aiming for $200k/month (big money, as he calls it), and I think he's right about going for corporate business if that's what you want.

But I agree with you also. Whatever you do online, blogging or whatever, there's ALWAYS someone willing to spend money on it, and you could build a business upon that.

    (continues....)

  • Wow! that is solid stuff!

  • I concur! Passion is EVERYTHING!

    TSP podcast are absolutely super!

    John

  • Good solid advice.
