  • Isn't the s2000 considered a mid engine layout since the engine is placed behind from front axel? i could be wrong.

  • @kippo Yeah I've seen some front engine cars with the engine so far back behind the front axel line that you can consider it mid engine.

  • how about RF, rear engine front wheel drive or mid engine front wheel drive

  • Dear God please tell me no one actually makes an RF? Why the hell would you want the engine in the back and then front wheel drive with no weight over the front wheels?? MF would make no sense either. Unless its for some specialty car like I dunno something like a boatcar or something. Front wheel drive is bad enough but the one thing its got is the engines weight over the wheels. If you put the engine in the back why would you add more work (drive shaft) to have the power go to the front?

  • @MN12BIRD they still consider it FR for some reason, thats why theres no 50/50 weight distribution MRthey are all rear bias. Like the new LFA, its rear heavy but the engine is in front, its still considered a FR but you can argue its MR in terms of weight

  • @MN12BIRD There was an early VW that uses the bug chasi and engine but with another body that used a diferential to make it FWD but with the Rear engine.

I have it chasi with the diferential system on a book of old VW mechanicals, but i dont know the name of this VW car and where it was made

  • Really informative, mate. Droned on a little over the course of the video (maybe be a little more lively!), but nonetheless a great video.

  • Make more vidz bro. This is the only video to ever make any sense to me on YouTube.

  • @kippo I know this is an old comment, but

It's actually pretty common for FR cars to have the engine mostly behind the front axle. It's good positioning. However, traditionally only cars with the engine behind the driver are labeled as MR.

I don't know the history but I bet the term "mid-engine" was invented after somebody started putting rear engines further forward, and wanted a way to advertise it distinctly from RR layouts.

I find it a more artificial marketing term than the others.

  • why dint you do more car talk videos?

id love a video about your car(s) you drive!

id also like to see you make a video on tips on buying a car stereo set up
