Advocates of a so-called sin tax on soda blame sugary drinks for a litany of obesity-related health complications. Common soft drinks like Coke and Pepsi contain high-fructose corn syrup, a major market for Americas corn producers.

  • thisd country sickines me

  • there's no debate either it's freedom are anti freedom that's the difference you fucking thieving tards

  • Sure the soda does help cause obesity. But obeisity is also caused because of all the other shit healthy or not that someone eats or drinks.

  • Do it on non diet idc but i need my Diet dr pepper motherfuckers.

  • The entire idea of taxing soda is not necassary. It comes down to US farm policy. What is in our sodas and other junk foods.. HFCS! All you have to do is stop subsidizing the production of corn and the price of soda will increase naturaly. The only reason to grow corn is subsidies. W/o subsidies, corn production will stop until the market the price rises (due to lower supply). Just let basic free market econ take over & the price will go up on it's own. HFCS is only cheep because of subsidies!

  • @powrbook17 sounds like another revolution coming

  • Oh, and one other thing: a tax will only encourage people to keep buying generic store brands; Sam's Choice (WalMart) for example, is like, 60 cents for a 2 liter. If its already that cheap to start with, who'd notice a tax??

  • This is beyond stupid. First of all, Coca Cola, for example, has been around since about the 1880's, right?? So how did it become a contributer to health woes, in 'recent decades',?? Probably because they had 8 oz. bottles, not 3 liter bottles, plus Big Gulps, huge cups with refills at Taco Bell, etc. Its not the soda, its the AMOUNT of it. Secondly, when I was a kid, we drank soda, sure, but we went outside to play and run around, instead of having Playstation, 24 hour On Demand, etc.

  • Your not restricted from drinking soda. Soda isnt getting banned. Your just gonna have to pay more for it.

  • They already tax cigarettes and cigarette smokers up the ass. They need to tax those dam tea drinkers, oh I forgot that didn't work when they tried that too.
