The golf gods were smiling on Jack that day. It's impossible to describe the electrifying feeling that washed over those of us who witnessed Nicklaus pull one last, great victory out of his club bag. On that day, and in that place, Augusta National, Jack Nicklaus cemented his place as the greatest golfer the world has ever known.
Keep into account...the equipment they were using back then. was vastly different.
Jack Nicklaus, like everyone else, was using Persimmon Woods, and "wound" 3-piece golf balls.
46, back then, was considered to be an advanced age. Up until then, Mr. Nicklaus had not won a PGA Tour Event in 3 years.....he hadn't won a Major in 5 years, which is why so many of the critics and writers had written him off..
I watch these clips...and they still give me a chill. Seeing everything unfold the way it did....and with his son, Jackie on the bag....[sigh]...I can sum it all up in one word.....
Seve Ballesteros had lost his father recently in 1986, and he wanted to dedicate the masters victory to his late father, that´s why he was so eager and sad after the public reaction, applauding a mistake. This sport is for gentlemen.
I turned 46 this year and had a moment like this. I haven't played steady golf in the last 12 years but when I did I was 6 handycap. I was playing some old friends this past summer and was down by 6 after the12th. I ended up birding 3 of the last 6 holes and shot 38 after posting a 46 on the front. I remembered this match while going thru the last 6 holes. Thanks for the memories Jack, you are truly an inspiration and a true American icon.

Jack is great but the american public is nasty.
Seve Ballesteros had lost his father recently in 1986, and he wanted to dedicate the masters victory to his late father, that´s why he was so eager and sad after the public reaction, applauding a mistake. This sport is for gentlemen.
