We continue our series of 2010 Summer Folk/Roots Festivals coverage with a trip to Fergus, Ontario. Located 115 KM northwest of Toronto, (near Guelph, ON), it is safe to say that this is not your typical folk/roots festival, but it certainly has featured many of today's music stars over the years. The Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games has enjoyed success since its beginning in 1946. Begun by Alex Robertson, the Games exemplify all things Scottish with a focus on heavy events, dancing, piping, clans and family interactive fun.
Our reporter for this event is Juno-nominated singer/songwriter David Leask. Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, David has won numerous songwriting awards over the years, including first place in the International Songwriting Competition, first and second place in the Unisong International Songwriting Competition, and the OCFF Songs From The Heart competition (2009). He produced the following video with the help of his bride, Mary Ellen.
