I don't believe Joe was ever a puppet for anyone. The man was intelligent enough to have his own opinions which have been pretty consistent throughout his career. Don't insult the man's memory by insinuating his passions were not his own.

@jenart1 Those were not his opinions. It was really all an act and a sad one at that. Joe was a much better person than those interviews in 1984 suggest. He was weak willed when it came to personal relationships though. It's painful to watch because he is so clearly trying to convince himself that what he is saying and doing is right when deep down, he knows it isn't.

Because he's completely full of shit in this interview. He's a talking head for Bernie. He talks about everything being overproduced fluff and then comes out with Cut the Crap, one of the most ineptly overproduced albums ever.

Anyways, its Joe being funny and intense as only Joe can be! Even now as an adult, I can see Joe is full of shit in some ways. But he's so sincere and intense, you're thinking YES! I have another tape of an interview he did at a popular jr. college radio station in Los Altos...KFJC. And Joe is as STONED AS FUCK! He could barley talk! Had 'cotton-mouth' and spoke very slowly!! Haven't listened to it in years though...it's still on cassette! I miss Joe. The Best Friend I Never Got To Meet!!

I almost forgot how to speak words, I was so nervous....But I asked him about Train/Vain then quickly asked about Micks legal ties to the Clash, the snuck in .."how did he take it?" being kicked out...Got a good reaction! Managing to sneak in 3 questions....He was pretty anti-Mick at this point in post-Clash history...but the interview is still pretty funny and interesting. I copied a few of his answers for my outgoing AnsrMaching.

I actually got through to the station, and was on hold while I made pizzas...I was gonna ask something about Mick's pop sensibilities and the whole mick+Joe ying/yang something or other...Joe was on a roll with lots of 'Joe-isms' and a screener said yadda yadda he answered your question already and hung up on me. I rushed home and started calling again...and got through again! I was nervous as fuck and just dying to ask Joe a question...>

I first saw the Clash play at the '83 US Festival. Micks last with the Clash. I was 17yrs old and a Clash Fanatic for life. When the Clash pt2 played in the SF bay area, I was stoked and went to see 'em play! I was a dumb kid and didn't know the 'whole' Clash story yet..Had a great time at the show, but didn't like Mick not singing his songs. Pete Howard was Fucking Great! A day or 2 before the show, Joe did a couple radio interviews. First one was on the 'Quake' 97.sumthing. I was at my job...>

@matedog2Joe pretty much disowned the album cut the crap. Joe and Paul had almost nothing to do with the production of the album it was all Bernie. so i don't know how you can say hes full of crap, he was disgusted with the record company and the cut the crap album. there's an interview of joe discussing this. Also, i don't think he was saying only black people can play "black music" he was just saying how white people tend to pick up a black style and mess it up. Not all white people but many.

Help I'm learning English, I don't understand all of what he's sayin and I then don't understand why he's so "full of shit" ? He's anyway as good looking as usually...
