  • What is your flux?

  • @TheBombBros It's borax brother.

  • @ArtistBlade1972 were do you get it

  • @derby790 Borax? Walmart...

  • Well there is a process to later neutralize the acid after the soaking... and concrete contractors commonly use it for etching concrete so in my farming community they do sell it locally but I would imagine it may be harder to find elsewhere

  • @kevincajun73 Ferric chloride leaves oxides on the steel that can't be removed by any process other that scrubbing with steel wool or sandpaper. Those oxides will inhibit a forge weld.

I've never seen anybody use anything other than muriatic (hydrochloric) acid to etch concrete. Ferric chloride is a very weak acid and if it actually managed to eat concrete it would stain it a deep yellow/brown that would never come off...

  • On a related note my town is so lax they still sell it at radio shack in small quantities I saw some once with dust all over it lol

  • @kevincajun73 Good luck forge welding the cable after that...

On a side note, Ive never seen a hardware store carry any acid other than muriatic (hydrochloric acid). I would love to find one that carried ferric chloride as you mention as I use it extensively in etching damascus.

  • Ferric acid can be bought from orschelins or any hardware store to soak you cable in to get a proper cleaning done without unravelling which can be tough on large cable...

  • @ArtistBlade1972 Yes, some of it does have rust. It is 1.5 and one piece of 3 inch. I will keep my eyes open for the box to arrive. Thanks!
