20 light years from earth, star gliese 581, it's about the same age as our sun. . . And orbiting it, this planet. It's just the right distance from it's Star, any closer water would boil away and further, it would freeze, ideal conditions for life to have evolved. And if comets have struck, delivering water and organic materials, then life, complex beings like us, even civizations like our own, could be down there, right now... And if they are even at this distance, they could be tuning into our radio signals, watching Television shows 20 years ago. . . But until future generations can figure out how to communicate over these vast distances, all we can do is speculate. Us and them, living patrallel lives, unaware of eachothers existence. Unless life has been and gone, that's the problem with comets they are creators and destroyers, as the dinosaurs found out the hard way 65 millions of years ago. This is the neettle in the cosmic hay stack. The closest we've come to a habitable solar system like our own.

  • You mean "AN earth-like planet.. not a Earth-like...

  • @1AppleofEden Haha, thanks for the correct bro.

  • we don't even know if this planet even has water on it. it could be a dead planet like mars. we don't know. mars is also in the inhabitable zone. so is the moon. i do believe that out there somewhere there is other forms of inteligent life I don't think the universe is brimming over with it or we'd would have made contact at some point in our human history.

  • @swampzoid I believe they've already made contact with us. But besides the point. I don't think you understand how planets are detected... Detecting water could be easy. Let me explain.

We have used the electromagnetic spectrum, by using this, we can detect the kind of gases it's atmosphere is "leaking".

We can use radial velocity as a way of determining it's weight and distance from the star. ect Want more detail?

  • If there is "Intelligent Life" on that planet, I wonder what god(s) they made up to die for?

  • @12dollarsand78cents Haha yeah. Or if Jesus Christ died for them to xD

  • Sorry, just to clarify. I'm not getting at treeasurex for posting, or trying to get too techy about this. But the tone of the clip "assumes" that there's a replica of Earth right there.

  • I'm an amateur science nerdo and spend ages on T'Interweb watching stuff like this. But this sort of docu works me up. "Orbiting, is this planet [flashes up a picture of what is basically Earth, when we haven't the foggiest what it actually looks like]..."

Then, "They could be listening to our signals, 20 years old..." Well, if they can receive and transduce that sort of stuff, they can almost certainly send. And we ain't heard them. THINK peeps!

  • the narrators voice is over the top..speak normally you tit

  • theres creatures there no doubt.

  • That would be freaky if they were looking at our planet like this too O.o

  • @Nicolaslaugh12 does this mean i can finally be a pokemon trainer?:D

  • Who else wast thinking the narrator sounded like the elves from Skyrim?

  • @IchKomentiereNur123 that'd be crazy af.

  • wow...time's gotta go somewhere maybe they're finding exactly what we're findin
