@nclysander I think it's poignant to add pauses here and there. It does work for Figaro sometimes, especially for this moment the Canzonetta Sul Aria duet. Everyone has loved this duet from the 1994 Shawshank Redemption movie scene. And before that, it was always a beautiful piece, so it just fits. For Don Giovanni, certain moments seem to call for dramatic pauses - the Commandatore coming to dinner and also the Mask Trio. It's just a matter of personal tastes

Was Muti asleep? Or did he want a "dramatic" pause before he brought in the orchestra? It was little things like this that made me impatient with his Don Giovanni as well.
Marshall and Donath are wonderful.
