We went camping at Writing On Stone Provincial Park in Alberta, Canada and had one very exciting trip! We had to evacuate due to a brush fire that was growing quickly two sites away from us.

This is part one of our camping trip. Part two will be uploaded tomorrow.

  • so that's not something one encounters often - I'm glad you guy's stayed safe

  • @briandudeathome I have to admit, that was the first time I've been near a brush fire and the first time I've had to evacuate, leaving stuff behind. I wasn't really scared for people but I was sad about the potential loss of items such as motorhomes and camping equipment (like ours). Luckily they got it under control. Could have been much worse had there been a wind to push it along.

  • I have never been to that campground . I have heard nice things about it. We like to camp in Beaver Mines.

  • @Ashleybecause It was the first time we stayed there. It was very nice. The Milk River is a very slow flowing so we were able to float down it on air mattresses. It wasn't very deep either so I wasn't as worried about the kids.

I just looked up Beaver Mines. What a nice looking place! We'll have to try it out sometime. Maybe it is a place to look into for next year. :)

  • that looked pretty scary... especially with all of our, from the US, fires in the south west.

  • @FamilyManDano Because we didn't know how fast the fire would move we got out of there ASAP. All it would have taken was a wind to push it along. Everything was so dry, lots of dead wood and poplar fluff that was feeding it. We were parked by the only exit out of there when we evacuated from our site. Everyone knew that it could have been so much worse.

  • wow I dont know what is scarier the fire or camping with babies. you are one tough mama i won't even take mine to the store. :)

  • Sounds like quite the adventure : )~

  • @kaboomfamilyVlog I was cheering them on! They were all running back and forth with coolers full of water. It had to have been exhausting. My job was the stay with the kids and a stranger's daughter who was off protecting her site so all I could do was thank everyone for working hard.

It really was a neat place to go camping. There was a river there that you could float on in inner tubes. It was slow moving and beautiful scenery.

  • @kaybees49 The campers were fantastic. There were some that just fled or watched but there were those who just worked to get it out. There were 8 campsites that were directly around that fire and no motorhomes or tents burned. It was quite remarkable. I watched a little girl for her mother while she protected her campsite across from the fire.

The carvings were fascinating. I'd love to go back another time and look at them again. The kids were so hot and tired when we reached them.
