Amtrak 286, the eastbound Empire State Express with turboliner power, makes a stop at the Buffalo Exchange Street station before Thanksgiving in November 1991.
Thanks Dad for the awesome footage!!

My favorite part of this video is the conductor - very old school, probably an Amtrak original. You don't see conductors like this guy very often these days on Amtrak.

  • Those turboliners look great in an Acela paint coat! The are sitting down in Albany! The Exchange street station is a little creepy though...We go to Depew!

  • Likewise. There is far more action at Depew, and the station is MUCH nicer.

  • beautiful capture of holiday rail travel.....thanks

  • AIR WOLF!!!!

  • I use to see him alot when he come thru Utica !!! In fact, I believe this was the train he worked !!! He was a real nice guy !!!

  • WE had a chance to ride the rebuilt Turboliners , between Albany & NYP, just before they were pulled. Windows and the view was much nicer than the Amfleets. We sat in the power car and could here the air brakes etc.

  • maintence issues.

  • That conductor reminds me a lot of actor/comedian Rip Taylor with that huge mustache.

  • Wouldn't they have been the French ones? Last I heard the last of the Amtrak rebuilt RTG and RTL Turbos have been scrapped.

  • The last place I see Rohn Turboliners is in Egypt on their national railway system, why did NY state not want them Rebuilt?

  • Old school!!! Sweet.

  • the funny thing is they sound alot like AirWolf when they pass by.... I usaed to want to know what kind of train they were but never knew... so theyre part Jet- which is why they have that airwolf sound i noticed they didnt have that chuga chug like the FL or the Genesis(another 2 favorites - far as engine sounds)
