St Cross College is a Graduate College, entirely devoted to Graduate Students and Fellows. It offers not only an outstanding academic environment dedicated to the pursuit of excellence within the collegiate university, it also provides its students with a platform from which to form meaningful intellectual and personal relationships with fellow students, members of common room and Fellows (academic staff).

St Cross College prides itself on being a very welcoming College. The College motto "Ad quattuor cardines mundi" meaning "To the four corners of the Earth" typifies the College's ethos of welcoming scholars from all parts of the world and once here treating them with respect and integrity. St Cross is home to scholars from a wide spectrum of academic disciplines and is atypical of the Oxford tradition in that the College does not have separate common rooms for its Senior and Junior Members or a high table in hall. Instead there are central common rooms to be used by all College Members and open seating in Hall. The College believes that this egalitarianism fosters a productive intellectual environment where Senior and Junior Members can form meaningful relationships to the betterment of their research.
