Andrew Copson counters Benjamin Perl on Newsnight. Benjamin Perl is supporting the claim that a child should be rejected from a Jewish faith school because his mother is not deemed to be 'truly' Jewish. The mother is a convert to Judaism, married to a Jewish man and the whole family regularly attend synagogue. Benjamin Perl has said more than once that he is at the "cutting-edge of fighting assimilation." The case is currently being considered by the supreme court.

    1) Churchgoers make up only a tiny proportion of the population. So it is mainly non-Churchgoers who are funding the schools which require Churchgoing for entry.

    2) The video shows that, in the case of Jewish schools, there is racism against "the wrong sort" of Jew.

    3) The massive rise in the number of faith schools often means that people find themselves with no choice but to use a faith school. So it is not a matter of "freedom of choice" at all.

    4) You'd prefer teen pregnancy?

  • What would happen if that man Perl was using the word "White" instead of the word "Jewish" in this video?

IDIOT!!! People can convert and become Jewish, so it's not a comparison.

  • @relarerfhjk its called freedom, freedom for the kids to not be brainwashed by their parents fairy tales

  • @WastedTourist That point deserves more than the one thumbs-up I can give it.

  • @relarerfhjk I don't see what you're arguing for. Secular schools do not discriminate against the religious. Faith schools are extremely discriminatory in that they only allow entry to the children of parents with a particular faith. That is why we shouldn't spend taxpayer's money on them. Secular schools represent everyone. They are designed to provide our children with a well-rounded education, and knowing how to work a condom is a vital part of that. Faith schools only represent the faithful.

  • Daniel Radcliffe is really into education... ha im hillarious

  • Faith schools should not exist.

  • You need to add some tags to this video.

    It's presently a big(ish) topic.
