Sometimes when pulling in a piece of audio into Pro Tools (like a scratch track) you need to determine what tempo that piece is so you can set the click track to follow along. This video will show you a super easy way to just that!

  • Its probably a dumb question but, I can't seem to bring up the transport bar using the short cut of cmd+1 or ctrl+1, any ideas why? Thanks

  • @antoni7515 You have to use the 1 on the right side of a full keyboard (the numeric keyboard), not the 1 above the letters.

  • Wicked video man, all of them are, I've been binging up on them for the past couple hours haha. One problem for me though, after I split the region and input the bar information into identify beat and press ok, it keeps the selection but moves the region and the rest of the song down by a couple grid values... I've been looking through my settings, and I've matched my immediate settings to those of yours in the video but I can't seem to find a solution. Any help? ahah

  • @GuitarManMilaneus It might have to do with whether your track is tick or sample based. Whether it stretches to follow the tempo changes you've made or not. You don't want it to stretch. Just the tempo to change.

  • is it possible to find the tempo of an acapella ?

  • Thanks. Explaining about telling pro tools that it is exactly one measure was helpful

  • IS THIS PROTOOLS SE OR PROTOOLS CAUSE IF SO WILL,PROTOOLS HELP ME WITH PROTOOLS SE ?....LIKE ARE THEY THE SAME

  • @antoni7515: If you're using a laptop (which I am assuming) you could simply buy an USB number keypad instead of getting a whole new, full-size USB keyboard.

  • @recordingrevolution Oh rite, thats why then as i dont have that type of keyboard but will be purchasing the editor keys keyboard so that shold solve all of those shortcut problems anyway. thanks a lot graham.

  • OMG, you explain it so easily and make it so understandable its very easy to follow! Thanks a lot you've just saved me a lot of time wasting!! You're the best graham, Cheers

  • I like to tap tempo on my kaossilator or KP3 to find tempo.... A lot of vsts have this option too, and you can midi map a controller key/button to it for a tactile input. This is a wonderful alternative. I'm sure I'll be using to double check my guesstimations.
