Creating Significant Learning Experiences Workshop

The Adams Center and the Provost's office was pleased to present this opportunity for ACU faculty to work with one of the acknowledged leaders in the area of course design and the creation of significant learning environments, Dee Fink. Professor Fink was the founding director of the Instructional Development Program at the University of Oklahoma (1979-2005) and has been active in the POD Network [Professional and Organizational Development] in Higher Education, the largest faculty development organization in the United States.
This two-day workshop gave college teachers the opportunity to learn about Integrated Course Design and applied them to one of their own courses. Professor Fink provided specific and targeted feedback on new course designs.
This was a "Doing" workshop, NOT a "talking heads" seminar. Participants spent over half the workshop time "doing" course design: re-designing their courses, sharing their design with others, and getting feedback on their design.
People attending this workshop learned how to design or redesign their courses so that their students have learning experiences that take into account the phases of course design: situational factors, learning goals, feedback and assessment, teaching/learning activities, and careful integration. Professor Fink guided participants through all the key steps of this process. Working with a specific course, participants framed learning goals, incorporated evaluation and assessment, and formulated powerful, active teaching strategies.
