Water Distillation

In this video, I show a method of distilling water, because I've noticed that there is a lack of DIY videos for this on youtube. Please comment on what you did and didn't like about the video, cause it's my first one. I will have a sequel with a more efficient system, which I am working on now.

Does steam distilling remove Cortex from water, you know, that stuff they're putting in the water to disperse the oil leaking in the gulf?

Also, what's the purpose of the chilling part?

@Winter077 I would assume that the distillation process would remove cortex as long as cortex has a higher boiling temperature than water. The chilling part condenses the steam that has been produced by heating the water. If you don't chill it, then most of the water will escape as steam.

I actually thought of that and am currently in the process of testing that design. Thanks for the tip about the wire; didn't think about that. I'll have to try it later though because I have already glued the tubing in a spiral down the container, but I have tried to maintain the tubing as far away from the container as possible.

try a bigger cooling holder and spiral more of the tubing from top to bottom like an old moon shiner's still which works on the same principle :)

What is the tubing made of. Is it a product that can leach toxins and chemicals into the steam. If so you are replacing one poison with another. The plastic lid would do the same.

What about copper tubing, then you could bend it into coils for the condenser.

I am thinking of a large stainless steel unit I can leave in the sun all day.

I will carry out my research, draw up a plan, and go for it. Wish me luck.

have you measured the purity, just cause when i make mine, there was a reading of 3-8ppm with a tds meter
