Ahh, come on, I agree that they can be dangerous but do you possibly think that people with any kind of common sense would actually use toothpicks and serve them in sandwiches like this to children? If so, they shouldn't be allowed to breed!
This is done in fun and if one wanted to serve them to kids, obviously use something different like PRETZLES or whatever...use your imagination as clearly this is what these shows are about. Crativity and imagination!;-) Keep up the great work you two!

To me it was particularly poignant because as an adult i bit into a sandwich having a hidden toothpick and it stabbed so deeply I had to use my fingers to extract it...not fun.
So, sorry to spoil the cute fun, but not a good idea for kids, especially since she was using them indiscriminately.
I tried to include the link to article, but u-tube didn't let me.

FAIL!
From 1979 to 1982, an estimated 8,176 toothpick-related injuries occurred yearly (3.6 per 100,000 population per year). The rate of injury was greatest among children 5 to 14 years old, but children younger than 5 years had a rate of injury to the eyeball and ear more than 20 times greater than that of other persons. Since young children appear to be at greatest risk, toothpicks should be kept out of their reach.
