Kenyans who survived the deadly gun attack in Southern Sudan in which three countrymen were felled, have returned home with tales of fear. They say efforts to have one of the victims injured in the attack flown back home for treatment failed and Sudanese authorities are making it even difficult for those who want to escape from the apparent hate campaign against Kenyans to leave.
Yet again we made mistakes even with those Ugandan professors: we - or rather MOI - forced them to leave!!!! How could we? How could we send those great teachers away?? @Karuitha, one reason that some leave Kenya is due to hostile conditions - esp. with police. I doubt your figures. There are like almost 0.5 million in camps!! I assure you this number is BIGGER than is integrated. We need to give out technology visas (like Australia etc); wealth creation visas; athletic visas etc

Karuitha: Correct. And also include the role many Ugandans played in the Kenyan educational system in the 1970s and 1980s. In those days even the most off-road secondary school had a Makerere educated graduate teacher. Most Kenyans who went to secondary school during this time had the most superb and equitable type of education that any Kenyan secondary school-goer has ever had.

You Kenyan needs to know that Sudan had been in war for two decades plus. What happened with Kenyan traders is something no any Sudanese should be proud of him. Sudanese are killing themselves everyday too and you guys need to know. I called it war trauma.
I had lived in Kenyan for many years as refugee and I had seen many bad things happening to Sudanese such as lost of life, robbing by police and Kenyan's authorities and you name it but we Sudanese should not retaliate.

i get ur point but the fact is the number of refugees in camps on the borders is small compared to the number that has intergrated into the wider kenya society. somalis now operate successful businesses in eastlands, ethiopians own matatus, in high school most of teachers were ugandans. also lets not forget that most refugees with financial means use kenya as their transit points to the west and most r relocated by the unhcr.

We made mistakes with refugees. We hosted MOST refugees in camps. Sometime we hosted millionaires who after sometime got visas to go to the Western World where they invested. Or we hosted athletes, scholars etc.. and instead of giving them a chance to build this country, we put them in camps. Many of the educated ones ended up in the West where they continue to contribute. In the end, we did not benefit - nor did the refugees benefit - as much as we would have.

do u know tha we kenyans are the most tolerant people in Africa? we have hosted refugees for as long as i can remember and never have i heard or seen any attacks on them. nubians now own kibera, somalis in esich, ethiopians, Ugandans, congolese, rwandans and even south africans. yet south africans went on a killing spree a year ago on fellow africans seeking refuge in their country. Only Ugandans are as friendly as Kenyans.

good to see u can see sense. my anger is that we have hosted these sudanese for years, nubians live in kibera in peace. there are many kenyans working in juba and am sad to see how we are being treated.

@siasabora: You know the story of W. Odhish. I went with him for dinner the first time and I offered to take care of the bill. And he said OK. I paid. Then on the second occasion I was willing to take care of the bill again. But Odhish told me: Bwana, nipe fursa ya kutumia pesa. And I allowed him to pay, including many occasions thereafter, till one day he told me: Chukua fursa ya kutumia pesa Bwana!! Luckily I had enough money in my wallet just to cover the bill.

OK, I retract the statement...! I just didn't like brothers (and a sister?) getting messed with like that! They were out there earning a living and them getting shot like that is mean...real mean of Sudanese!

SB: No retaliation. Kenyans should just believe in themselves and move to areas they feel safer. Reciprocity is a virtue synonymous with Kenyans in spite of PEV 2008. At the moment of need we accepted the Ugandans, South Africans and Sudanese. Most Ugandans have reciprocated and recently allowed Kenyans grazing rights inside Uganda. But most South Africans completely lose their tempers on seeing a non-South African in their country. However, the Southern Sudanese need us and they know this.
