Despite an SGC pitch containing plenty of moisture, Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar elected to bat first. He might have changed his mind after edging the fifth ball of the match to Rod Marsh. Confronted with Australia's hostile pace battery of Lillee, Pascoe and Hogg, India slumped to 5/78. The tourists were rescued to some extent by Sandeep Patil, who stood up to the Australian paceman courageously, cutting and driving off the back foot with good effect. Patil scored his 50 in less than an hour after lunch, but was also struck a vicious blow on the collarbone. When Pascoe struck him again at 8/201, this time on the temple, Patil was forced off the ground, and India's last two wickets fell without further addition. Lillee and Pascoe collected four wickets apiece for the Australians.

  • Yes, I have indeed posted this innings twice as the second version was of better quality. I meant to delete the first attempt, so thank you for reminding me. And yes, I do write the match summaries on these videos, so thank you for your kind words.

    Yours in cricket, etc. :-)

  • I see that you posted the first innings videos of both teams twice, though the newer ones are of better video quality and has longer footage.

I love your video descriptions as they beautifully sum up the action that's about to unfold. Do you write these descriptions/reviews yourself? If indeed you do, then I'd say you have a great flair for cricket writing. I love the personal touch at the end - the way you sign off - so I shall do the same

    Yours in cricket ,

An admiring third umpire fan :)
