Latest downlinked images from Mars Descent Imager (MARDI) as of the morning of August 19th 2012.
Audio from control room is roughly matched to the video.
The images have been assembled into a video at approximately 5 frames a second (matching the rate at which they were captured).
Not all images have been received from Curiosity, so this video is incomplete a slightly choppy. However it does show the entire sequence from backshell separation to wheel touchdown.

erm... no they didn't they needed it to make nothing but good TV. There is no control exerted by mission control whatsoever on the orbiter, the delivery package, the sky crane or the rover.... they are too far away to send any message that could be acted upon. The video is all for the public... the scientists use telemetry data instead.
The time from release to landing was a little under 8 minutes... the time to send a message is 22 minutes, no signal to do jack shit would arrive on time.

They probably did have a camera attached to the orbiter... and no doubt they'll release that too.
There is of course a likelihood that one media company or another has an exclusive deal with NASA for the right to air this footage, so they might have to get permission every time they release video.
But I have no idea why a video cam could not have been situated on the top, sides, or any other place... or even an autonomous one that free fell with the sky crane for that matter.
