Columbia Musical Treasury of All Time Favorites presents:
The Sensational Sixties.

I should have known you'd bid me farewell
There's a lesson to be learned from this and I learned it very well
Now, I know you're not the only starfish in the sea
If I never hear your name again, it's all the same to me

And I think it's gonna be alright
Yeah, the worst is over now
The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball

You never care for secrets I confide
For you, I'm just an ornament, somethin' for your pride
Always runnin', never carin', that's the life you live
Stolen minutes of your time were all you had to give

And I think it's gonna be alright
Yeah, the worst is over now
The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball

The story's in the past with nothin' to recall
I've got my life to live and I don't need you at all
The roller-coaster ride we took is nearly at an end
I bought my ticket with my tears, that's all I'm gonna spend

And I think it's gonna be alright
Yeah, the worst is over now
The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball

Oh, I think it's gonna be alright
Yeah, the worst is over now
The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball

  • Starfish in the sea!! I always thought it was starfish in the city and that never made sense.haha

  • @Glambert345 The phrase "(other) (only) fish in the sea." is symbolic. In this case, a relationship gone bad, hence the phrase "Starfish in the sea."

  • When was this song released? In my recollection, it was the summer of '67. Am I correct?

  • @dvora072096 According to Wikipedia, the original version by the Cyrkle's on 4 April 1966. #2 on the billboard top 100. The Seekers also did a version in the same year.

  • This is the last song that I heard the last time I was in the car with my Dad before he passed away when I was 16 years old...(16 years ago) I remember him singing along to it. Today (May 10) is the anniversary of his death. So I always listen to this song each every year on the anniversary of his passing, just because I remember him singing it. RIP Dad1950-1995

  • Came for the ponies. Stayed for DAT RIFF.

  • What a weak,lame song

  • I never thought about it before but this song is pretty harsh, perfect breakup song

  • 20 years ago I radio dedicated this to my ex-boyfriend after I happily dumped him upon learning he'd cheated while I was away. Reading the lyrics again all these years later (happily married to a much better man), I still think I made a solid choice. LOL

  • streetlight Manifesto did a fantastic cover of this song if you guys didn't know! CHECK IT OUT!

  • my fav version was when Rev. Jesse Jackson did it! SNL

  • magic

  • This song was dated somewhere between Cathy and Shirley.lol. Damn the 60's were great!!

  • Paul Simon wrote this pop gem...saw these guys live in Baltimore with the Young Rascals & Paul Revere and the Raiders...$5. Now you can't even park your car for that. All the shows were reasonable back then, until Bill Graham came on the scene...
