Squadron Leader Monath Perera bids adieu
March 5, 2011 The funeral of Squadron Leader Monath Perera took place in Galle today.
He died in the Kfir collision over the skies of Yakkala in Gampaha last Tuesday. The funeral took place at the Samanala Grounds in Galle this afternoon, with full honours accorded by the Air Force and under state patronage. His remains were brought to Mahinda College in Galle this morning, where he had his academic studies. Thereafter the body was taken to the Samanala Grounds with full military honours.
Squadron Leader Monath Perera joined the Sri Lanka Air Force in 2004. In the past seven years, he had completed 450 air time hours. Also during his service period he had participated in 75 operations, a commendable achievement when compared with the average number of operations. As a pilot, Monath Perera discharged an outstanding service during the decisive battle against the terrorists. Today he bade farewell to his relatives as well as Mother Lanka.
