2003 Johnny Weir US Nationals LP (sort of?)

Fans of Johnny Weir got a shocker in Dallas. After a phenomenal debut, a somewhat confused Johnny loses his place on the ice, kicks the boards, and does a fantastic imitation of Blumberg and Seibert. We would have to get accustomed to such 'hot and cold' skating.

I think he early on, treated each performance like a piece of fine crystal. His efforts didn't just crack, they usually shattered. It seemed that once the least little thing went wrong in a program, he gave up on it.....and was no longer interested. He would eventually learn to recover and complete a competitive effort.....but there were some heartbreaking moments for us all.......this one especially memorable.

I never heard an explanation of what was happening here, between his ears. He would re-visit this program the next year, and win his first National title....and a crystalline perfect 6.0!!!

i read that he injured his knee on a failed 3axel landing, so on the 1st one i thot it looked okay...then i saw the 2nd one. OOH BOY that ones gotta hurt!

@thealphebeters Not exactly. A serious INJURY, (causing other injuries) full recovery took years & cuel critics said his career was "OVER/DONE." How any adult critic could "speak" this way to a CHILD of 19 is beyond me. But, YES, JOHNNY WEIR'S THE GREATEST and he came back to show them who's who!!!
