In June 2008, St Barnabas held it's first Night to Remember midnight walk and thousands of pounds was raised for the hospice. 22 of my family and friends joined me on the walk (a half marathon) as my mum, Sandy Bushby, was terminally ill with breast cancer and relied greatly on St Barnabas. Despite a very long and hard fight, mum passed away on 8th July 2008. Thanks to St Barnabas, mum met some very special people and had some fantastic times. Above all else, they helped mum enjoy her life and not fear death. She could not have wished or asked for better care.
We did it all again on the night of 20th June 2009 but this year TEAM SANDY was not just about my mum, it was about all those who have been helped by St Barnabas and for each and every one of us who may one day need their help or know someone that will.
My dear friend, Lynnie Read, bravely agreed to have her hair shaved off rather than do the walk this year in memory of my mum and to raise crucial funds for St Barnabas.
