are they good in hot weather? like san diego or arizona?

@dcelis96 Actually they are not. They are sensitive to the heat. They cant stay outside in extreme heat without some way to cool them down. Mister, water cooler, ac... something. They will have a heat stroke even int he shade.

It was 112 degrees that day, it was horrible. Texas heat sucks!

Rescued mine from a scumbag that abused him an left him tied to a stump for dead because he wouldn't tag a wild pig, best house dog ever, great with baby , bit the fingers of an intruder one night while we were sleeping. Lol never barked though!

My AB Rocky (Johnson Type) is really sensitive to the heat - even where we live - up in the woods in WA state. Our summers are pretty mild, maybe gets upwards to 90 degrees or so at the most. He loves to lay in the sunshine on our deck in the morning but come afternoon he's kinda miserable. So we showed him the hose and he LOVES IT. All it takes is about 15 mins playing in the hose and he is set for the rest of the day!

Houses with fenced in yards or farms with wide open spaces are the best environment for an American Bulldog.

I love my Johnson type (pure breed) so much,only trouble is he steals my blanket,hogs the bed and snores louder than me.They are the best dogs,all around companions,protectors,and loyal loves.If the U.S.Marines have them as their mascot,you know they are special!

@trashman0812 He does look pure, but that doesn't mean he's purebred or was ever registered. LOTS of shelters pick a breed they think the dog is in your boy's case American Bulldog then put American Bulldog mix because they can't prove he's not a mix.

@mgbrawl Scott our more of the performance type they are more known for there working ability because they are not as bully , Lots of Johnson's are super active dogs that have a good amount of drive but the heat does get to them more.

@MisterGreenGuy strange they are sensitive to heat, i thought they are supposed to be working dogs in the southern states were it is hot? my boy is not good in the heat, but i thought it was because he's half DDB....
