Fred Astaire made a film in 1951 called ROYAL WEDDING. The famous sequence in which he dances up the walls and on the ceiling was accompanied by a song called "You're All The World To Me."

In 1953, MGM was starring Joan Crawford for the first time in color and they created a film called TORCH SONG. The budget was extremely small, and they used not only an outtake from THE BAND WAGON (1953) called "Two-Faced Woman," they also used Fred's dance music from ROYAL WEDDING for a sequence with Joan and Charles Walters.

Compare the two.

  • You all know Joan Crawford was Fred Astaire's first on-screen dancing partner, right? Before Ginger? Fred's first film was Joan's Dancing Lady

  • A wonderful juxtaposition! I was afraid this might be another "trashing Joan" clip, and was pleasantly surprised that it was not. Joan had an incredibly long career for good reason - she instinctively knew how to adjust to changing times and tastes, and did so! Joan Crawford was the original "survivor" long before the reality series was ever thought of.

  • Joan Crawford did the leg pose waaaayyyy before any Angie Jolie...don't ruin that line!

  • Both are good numbers (in very different ways, obviously).

  • This tune (not the music) was used years before Kid Millions as well (1934)

Look up "I Wanna Be A Minstrel Man" on YouTube

  • I knew they borrowed a lot for Torch song, but this is redic! Awesome editing job and thanks for the comparison!

Joan did a good job dancing and those legs! Hot hot hot!!! Poor thing could not sing though, based on the recording studio session on the DVD of Torch Song...

  • Fred and Joan Ahhh pure heaven!

  • Fred Astaire is all man! ^_^

  • Joan certainly was a good dancer since the 20's when she was a flapper. She and Fred danced together in Dancing Lady... I enjoyed how you did this....it never occurred to me it was the same piece of music in both films. How clever of you. Visit my Joan Crawford channel. Robbie.

  • Nice try, but at her very best Joan Crawford is Fred Astaire Lite.

  • janet leigh 100.... Janet was a beautiful woman...and a good actress...better than many think ...I really had a crush on her when I was young...about your age... had a scrap book of her and Tony Curtis...unfortunately it was thrown away a long time ago...happy to know that a new generation is aware of her and likes her
