@colmas This wasn't a modern attempt at turning a mono song into a stereo one by using filters. This was the original stereo mix from the 1960s. It was recorded on two-track tape, so the instruments were recorded on one track and the vocals were recorded onto the other. When it came time to mix the song in stereo, the only option was to pan the instruments to one side and the vocals to the other.

@tlatosmd I just read your comment and noticed the 9,9,9, release date. Lennon lived by the #9. Did they think that it was good luck to use that date? #9#9#9#9#9. lol

This is very much a Billy J Kramer recording in it's style. John's harp and Ringo's drumming set it apart from him though. 6 months after you wouldn't know it was the same band - that's how much they progressed. Still this has a charm. I loved this as a kid and as an an old adult I still do!
