you can say stand right up on the mic if your mic is cardiod people don't stand that close especially singers u get proximity effect(bass) witch will be very hard to remove in your mixing process

Great tips but sometimes (in my case) you have a powerful voice when rapping that you should stand a couple of inches away... in my case I stand about 10 inches away.

actually, you can get that out !

For those watching this misinformation. As an audio engineer of strictly rap for 10+ years...Do not stand as close as you can to the mic...u want to use the proximity effect and back off the mic about a 6 to 8 inches otherwise you will increase the low frequency as you get closer to the mic which you will ultimately remove in the master anyways. Thats why most mics have a bass roll off. There is not much to be gained recording frequencies below 100hz with vocals. StixxBeats

I never get that close to the mic unless I'm speaking an intro to the song. And this could have been shorter if he didn't spend all that time trying to make his point about the noises lol.

i know a lot of people can agree that it depends on what kind of mic you have, what pattern type you set it to and most of the time u will have to be 3-4 inches away when u are regular rappin and 5-7 inches away when shouting, and its called plosives not words like a p, and those sound do get picked up by the mic the air is what doesn't get picked up by it cmon..expert!
