The Police at San Bernardino, USA (Glen Helen Regional Park in California - 1982.09.03) - "Us Festival". The Police played for 140 000 people and it's the biggest audience they have ever played to. It was the second World tour, called "Ghost In The Machine World tour", which started in 1981 summer and lasted till 1982 autumn.

  • Great post!! First I've seen of this US Festival '82 show.

But I've never understood why they decided to use that horn section for the Ghost tour...

  • @nitedrive

I think that was Sting's idea to use horns. You had to look for new sound, for something new. Later in 1983 The Police had three backing singers.

  • @nitedrive I agree about the horn section. Just awful.

  • @EiDy2 - yep, think I read something about that in Andy Summer's book, "One Train Later" (great read). I recall Andy writing he didn't like the horns.

But yeah, I understand Sting trying to keep things fresh. Even with the horns, these guys were fantastic.

The backing singers on the following tour were a great addition.

  • Awesome
