After a jam-packed premiere at New York City's historic Museo del Barrio, filmmaker Greg Berger brings his new films to college campuses across North America...
About the Program:
Amor en Tiempos de Influenza (Love in Times of Influenza) 15 minutes
Written, shot, and edited in the heat of Mexico's 2009 swine flu scare, this fictionalized documentary combines historical narrative and absurdist Mexico City street theatre to unmask the political interests behind Mexico's flu scare, particularly the role that U.S. agribusiness corporation Smithfield Foods may have played in the mutation of the H1N1 virus.
La Rebeldia Bajo Sitio (Rebellion Under Siege), 35 minutes
In Mexico's Chiapas State, indigenous farmers are being beaten, shot and imprisoned by armed thugs and their government supporters, after years of relative calm in the region. Most of the victims are civilian supporters of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation. Commissioned by Venezuelan television network TeleSUR, this documentary discusses the connections between the U.S.-funded drug war and the return of paramilitary violence to Chiapas.
EACH EVENT WILL INCLUDE:
- Presentation of both films, with filmmaker Greg Berger present for Q&A.
- Three copies of each film for the host institution's library or archives.
- A classroom workshop with the filmmaker.
