Robert Sterchie during World War II in North Africa was walking and an Italian prisoner said to him in perfect English, Hi Lieutenant how are yeah? Robert was perplexed and asked his story.
My grandfather, an Italian born in NY, was stationed at Fort Drum NY and Italian POW's were treated so well that he would actually SIGN THEM OUT and they would go to the movies, out to eat, ect!!!! lol He said that they were treated very well because most of the Italian troops were very reluctant soldiers, and excellent workers.
Hi Robert --There is a "charming and humorous" documentary about Italian POWs that were brought to the US during WWII called "Prisoners in Paradise." It covers the events in North Africa as well. I think you would like it. You can see a clip on You Tube or search google for Prisoners in Paradise and you will find the website where you read about the film, watch a clip and buy the DVD.
Impressive great war stories and love stories VARIETY You cant get better than this. Prov Journal
