  • I remember way back in 1973 at Long Beach, there were two 2100's in the Mexican Navy and they looked real good. I was stationed on a stretched (FRAM) 2250 at the time. So, I did get the chance to see a couple of Fletcher class destroyers. My last two ships were Spruance class destroyers....what a difference.

  • This tribute is orchestrated to "God Bless the USA". It chronicles the history of the Fletcher class (DD 445) ships from WWII until 1969 when Fletcher was decommissioned. There is another video in this group that honors the service of the second Fletcher, DD 992. 992 has also been decommissioned and sunk as a target ship in RIMPAC 2008.

  • so many thanks ! great video !

  • Great video.

  • My dad served aboard DD 686 (Halsey Powell) and you have some footage of this vessel between 1:18 and 1:33 on your post. Thanks for this great tribute!

  • My uncle was on DD574 USS JOHN RODGERS as an AA gunner. The ship is still floating today in a Mexican port on the Pacific side. It served in the Mexican navy from 1970 to 2001. There is a guy trying to purchase the ship and bring it back to the States right now (October 2010). However it might get tied up in international politics and could wind up getting scrapped.

I recomend visiting the USS KIDD in Baton Rouge LA. The've done a fine job of preserving that fletcher.

  • great vid and the song is a great choice!!!!!!

  • Nice job, my father was on "Lucky 13" in WWll

  • Great job Charlie!
