  • Yeah it may not be totally acurate, but it's definately more Japanese than Memoirs of a Geisha. And it's surpisingly well Japanese-flavored for a 1950's American film.

  • Could you please upload the rest of the movie?!

  • i remember this movie from 1980's (i was born in 1973). And loved by the japanese traditional musics. I am here now to hear them one more time.

  • The opening scene is a traditional Okinawan Dance. KanaiYo. The instrument is a sanshin. The dances Kyo Machiko San performs are from Japan

  • FYI:

Machiko Kyo was one of the top actresses in Japan around that time. Before becoming a film star she was a top star in OSK revue (Osaka Shochiku Kagekidan) which is a model of the theater that "Hanaogi" of "Sayonara", also starring Marlon Brando, belonged in the film.

That's why Machiko can act and dance as well. She was not an authentic type of Japanese actress in that era, and was rather unique. She was also in Kurosawa and Mizoguchi etc's films that won overseas film awards, and herself

  • Please dont tell me shes white Y_Y

and plus what was with the bollywood dancing?? 0:16

  • I ysed to love this film until one day I started to see it with 'diffrent eyes'.

  • I seen this on the channel where they play all the older movies and I recorded it next to some old Inu Yasha eps from back when adult swim was decent, back when they had the outlines of the characters spinning around kicking and headbutting another before the show started.

I was sitting there watching this thinking to myself I see why anicent Japanese men drank and smoked when these girls danced.

My friend in kyoto says they aren't the same anymore, american-currency changed the traditions

  • I am Japanese and this film is pretty bizarre but Machiko Kyo is the first class Geisya actress. Her dancing is awesome and authentic, a bit too flashy though.

  • Gotta agree that is way more Japanese then Memoirs of a Geisha was haha. The dancing is pretty awesome, although the music is odd. And hey, costume changes to make even Tamasaburo jealous XD!

  • Accurate or not, its a beautiful dance

  • Disgusting. I fucking hate Hollywood.
