Based on the book that the play is based on Demeter and macavity were a couple and victoria and mistoffelees are their children and technically demeter and munkstrap are now mates (based on the book). Different countries and different drama houses adapt them to be more favorable to their fans.

@KikiD15 Based on Old Possums? I don't recall any of that in the book of poems. And quite frankly, if that were the case then that would have been confirmed in the play or by ALW when he was creating it as I'm sure he studied that book closely.

Okay. There are no confirmed mates. The couples change in every production, depending on the director and cast I suppose. But technically speaking, Demeter and Munkustrap aren't together in the video either. They don't partner up in the mating dance, and the only real time they are ever even close to being intimate is when he saves her. But I mean, if someone saves you of course you'd be thankful, and because they're cats the message might have gotten across wrong, and the nuzzle implied more.

In a lot of stage productions Demeter and Alonzo are often portrayed as mates, with Munkustrap being the flirtier one of the tribe.

Actually Munkustrap is normally really uptight and keeps to himself whenever he isn't preforming solos and such.

But yeah Alonzo/Demeter is very common. I love that pairing :P hehe

He based some of the characters and the setting on the book but many parts of the plot came from his own imagination but there is an afterword to the book by T.S Elliot i don't know if it's in every copy of the book but it's in the hardcover copy that i have. There is an afterword along with a "notes about the author" and the afterword explains the origin and meaning behind most of the stuff in the book it includes some details.

@blackwaterfeamale I am fond of that pairing but this is cute too. In the tour I saw a couple of years ago, she was paired up with Alonzo. When I first saw the show she seemed to be paired with Munkustrap so it depends. Personally I like her with Munkustrap.

Quite a few of my online friends saw Munk acting kinda like Tugger. Though it really doesn't surprise me that he's usually uptight + independent. It fits him, hehe
