A Chinese amateur inventor, Tao Xiangli has built a homemade submarine, which is 6,5 meters long , weights 800 kg and has a periscope, pressure gages, a compass and a supply of oxygen. As he says: Many parts of the submarine were bought in the second hand market, something that facilitated my financial and continues: I always check the submarine before I plunge it into the water, for example I disconnect the periscope and check the oxygen supply every time. I m now installing a monitor device which looks like a periscope and can rotate through 360 degrees.
The 34-year old Tao is a member of a very poor family and had to leave school in the first five years because his family could not pay school fees. He loves his inventions and spends his days working on new ones. All of his revenues are spend to his new creations and hes looking in second hand markets for cheap materials. Among his inventions are included devises such as a massage device, a hairwasher and a device for shoe polishing. However, while at least 15 of the 50 inventions are patented, none of them gave him money or fame.
The construction of the submarine took him two years and cost nearly 5000$. As he claims, he did it because it was something that few would dare. Tao hopes that his invention will muddy the waters of the economic life of the country and he would finally become a professional inventor.
Locals say: He is very creative. No one in his place would give up easily.
Tao believes that: When someone tries, doesnt know what effects his try will have. It is a way to prove myself and I hope people will help me. »
