Good question actually, they are just very different. The cabin of Via Rail trains are modelled after airliners and we have the little snack cart (like the ones in the Hiawatha) instead of the Cafe Car (although I've only taken trains on the Quebec City-Windsor Corridor). Most Comfort Class (our Coachclass) cars offer individual seats (LRC and Renaissance). I've never taken any long distance services with the Via Rail since it is way too expensive. Amtrak is a lot nicer in that sense.
Great video of historic Union Station in Chicago. I miss living there. I work for the railroad in Texas and am thinking about a possible transfer to Chicago to run Metra trains there.
