vivalamusicavieja: La cumparsita fue ejecutada en público por la orquesta de Roberto Firppo, a pedido de su autor el oriental Gerardo Mattos Rodriguez. El nombre le fue adjudicado , en honor a un mozo italiano que trabajaba en la cervecería que fue conocida por la vaquería de mar, ubicada en el Parque Urbano, hoy José E. Rodó. en realidad es de la Jazz Band de Firpo en esa época tenia su orquesta de tango y una Jazz Band el grabo esto en 1916 en la compañia de Max Glucksman propietario de los Discos Nacional Odeon.

It's a "Stroh" violin—a violin with a metal horn attached to it, so that the acoustic mechanism can "hear"it.

Stroh violins were always used in pre 1925, pre-electrical recordings.

There are two bandoneons (at the left-upside), piano, three violins and flute. I think your woo-woo are the bandoneons and your xylophone is the flute, because the distortion of this old record technics.

It sounds to me like there is a theremin in the recording, but if this was recorded in 1916 then that's too early for a theremin, I guess. What is the "wooo-wooo-wooo" sound coming from? Also, do I hear a xylophone or are my ears playing tricks on me again? Thanks for any info about the instrumentation.
