1987's Candlepin Bowling championship would be the 2nd and also last Championship show that was held at the Fairway lanes in Natick. The top 5 bowlers were: Dick O'Connell, Tom Olszta, Peter Flynn, Joe Tavernese and Dan Lasko. The show was very exciting with lots of marks, clutch shots, and tons of bonus money given away.

Here is part 1 of the 1987 Candlepin Bowling Championship with announcers Don Gillis and Tim Lipke.

Enjoy :D

  • I have to comment.... My goodness I appreciate your posts of this sport as I have become a fan and I guess there is a place in Ohio to try this sport.. BUUUUUUUT!!! Lots of marks????? This is the worst bowling I have seen on any of the posts. Olszta with a 103?? the top score 125 which was obtained by a triple in the 10th?? a ten string average of 113.6??? It was VERY EXCITING due to the fact that it was close but it was terrible bowling for these guys...

  • I think that triple strike got me to post the lots of marks comment. :P

  • Original broadcast tape, Wolf? Looks like it and it's cool that the commercials are in there. I'm an 80s freak and I always love seeing them.

  • It was actually a DVD copy of the original broadcasted, given to me by none other than Anthony Caron. :P

  • @OLDPRO1964 It makes me wish that back in the local sectors that the big three channels focused on the common folks of the town and made them look like heroes. These were everyday people who, when on these telecasts, got to showcase their amazing abilities in a difficult but fun sport.

  • Mike, I've been catching up with these shows and thanks so much. I grew up watching these with my family back then and it really makes me proud to say I was born and raised in Massachusetts.

Does anyone know the name of the theme song for Candlepin Bowling on WCVB?

  • LOL, the 80's were so cheesy...

  • Steve, great job with Candlepin for Kids. You are a great ambassador for the sport, and with people like you involved, I see a bright future.

  • Yes you did,my wife and I got there about 8am for those seats. What a great show,Flynn with the triple strike...Just as they show the trophies during Don's introductions at the begining,Al Labelle the owner of the old Hippodrome lanes where Tom Olszta managed is sitting on the left and John Valente the writer for the Boton Globe is sitting to the right....Joanne Ruzzano is also there standing up in the background about 4 persons to the left of the camera.....Those were the days

  • I think I saw steve renaud in the audience
