This video introduces viewers to the concept of augmentative and alternative communication and how speech communication devices can help those challenged by significant speech disabilities to speak their minds.

AAC is a term used to describe a range of communication tools including high-tech speech generating devices, which are often funded by Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance or if you are a veteran, the VA.

  • This in combination with the success stories demonstrates the need for this device to be made available to everyone who needs it. Everyone should be able to communicate their basic needs.

  • I was moved by the video and in our society I do see the need for this equipment.

  • I've just started studying Cert III in Disability in Australia. I have always wondered how Professor Stephen Hawking, one of the worlds greatest scientific minds can communicate his message. AAC is the answer. Even though a person has a disability they also have abilities. Every human deserves the right to speak, to express themselves and be heard.

  • I like this video!

  • Nice introduction to AAC.

  • Wonderful. I have read about or seen at least three people that said how AAC has changed them. One girl said, "When I wasn't able to communicate, actually, I was a non-person." These are such amazing devices that can give people true life through communication.

  • Awsome,...i am taking a class called special populations, and i would like to use this as part of my presentatioin dealing with AAC

  • I felt the video gave alot of good testimonial on the effectiveness of assistive and augmentative communication devices and how they improve the quality of life, learning, and communicating for people with special needs. I would like to have more information to pass on to parents who's children would benefit from these devices.

  • A great resource! Thanks YouTube.

  • this is a really great video about AAC and very helpful to the person who does not know about AAC yet. I am a friend of an AAC user and I am still learning about AAC myself. I hope you watch this video with an Open mind open ears, as well as an open heart. Thanks you tube for posting this video God bless.
