Fragment PKF "Walka ze stonką" z innym podkładem muzycznym.
+++++++++++
The clip here is a fragment of Polish Film Chronicle, shown in socialistic Poland (and for a few years after the collapse of communism) in cinemas before the shows, and later in TV sometimes. This one covers the struggle with Colorado potato beetle, known as "stonka" in Poland. Accidentaly "imported" to PRP, this beetle quickly became a serious problem due to its voracious apetite and lack of proper insecticides. In one of the most ridiculous manner, socialistic authorities claimed that the beetle was in fact dropped by American aircafts as a sort of biological warfare against Polish potato farms and launched a massive propaganda actions against it. People would walk across the fields, collecting the beetles to the containers (jars and bottles) with oil to kill them. Kukuruzhniks (Polikarpov Po-2 biplanes and their Polish version, CSS-13) were called to drop Azotox (Polish name for DDT) on the infested fields. The chronicle was such an absurd that today many people watch it as a comedy.
The section with Po-2s flying over Baltic coast is one of my favourites, it's so comic to involve aircrafts against pests :D I've made a version with Wagner's "Ride of the Walkyries", because it somehow reminded me of "Apocalypse Now" scene. The narrator in original says: "The airmen* were also mobilized for action. Azotox - a powder which brings doom to the beetle. The American beetle shall not triumph in Poland nor Germany! Provocation of the war mongers will fail dramaticaly! Everyone - fight with the Colorado beetle!". Fortunately such an absurdal chronicles are no longer shown... or maybe, on the other hand, it's a pity? They were quite amusing :P

*note: they were not military aircafts, none of them had Polish AF Chessboards on the wings or tails.

Pozdrawiam
