So for all of you who didn't know, I have a new horse, Corajay.
He was raced until he was 7, has had a year off, and now he's mine :)
I moved him to Seamist (the place where Teddy was bred) and my mission now is to 'get the racehorse out of the racehorse'.
He's turned out on 90 acres of pasture with 15 other horses, so he's learning social skills with the other horses & how not to be pushy/rude ect. Seamist borders the Otways National Park, so there's hours and hours of trails to ride though, which is helping him to think more about slowing down and were to put his feet so he doesn't trip over rocks/roots ect. I'm only riding him a few times a week, just to bring him back into work slowly so his mind+body can keep up with everything around him, as this is a massive change to his normal lifestyle.
There's so much grass in the paddocks that he isn't being hard fed every day, he's only getting feeds after I ride him. Having no grain in his system is helping to chill him out as well.

So everything is working out perfectly for CJ :) He's happy and fat.
Sorry I don't have any footage of the trail riding, I'm always riding by myself so I can't really get any clips. I rode him in the paddock to at least get some footage for an update on him :) Oh and there's no color enhancing or editing in this video, the paddocks are beautiful and green :) And I decided to lead him over a jump to see what he'd do and he followed me over it hahaha, he's so cute!!

I'll be moving him back to Infield Park (the place with the indoor arena/stables ect.) so do some dressage/jump training with him in 2 weeks.
I love this horse :D

  • thats awesome! He's so cute :D You did such an incredible job with Teddy, I'm sure CJ will turn out amazing too! By the way, whats this song called it's AWESOME!!!!!!

  • @Justasam

    Thehe, thank you :D

The Cave by Mumford and Sons

  • hey there I am working with an ex race horse and was wondering what kinda bit are you using on him.... I am using a snaffle and he is not liking it..... thanks

  • @hannahalexismommy

I'm using a simple single jointed eggbutt snaffle on him.

But once I move him to the stables with facilities, the first thing I'm doing is teaching him to be ridden bitless. It really helps to cool them down.

  • Haha, get the race out of the racehorse. How fun. By the way; he has absolutely stunning natural action. Dressage maybe? I could see him going super far. Good luck!!!

  • @ReiningOverYou

Yes, I think he'll be great at dressage :)

I think he'd make a nice eventer too, I've jumped him over a few logs out on the trails and he's got a big ping!

  • He is gorgeous (:

  • Im training a race horse and jw how you got his head in?

  • in this video i see that you tend to bounce in the saddle then cantering, try cantering without stirrups it always works for me. that's how i stopped bouncing in the saddle. its not good on the horse. just trying to help out a follow rider. :D

  • We never had a problem with our racehorses. If coming home from the racing stable, we did they back to the herd and rode from day one. English or Western. I would not cut his oats and mineral supplements. Racehorses need by nature more protein and nutrients than other breeds. To shorten the horse's ration of oats, only weakens his nerves. Often it is only the lack of an element, e.g. Magnesium and lack of exercise by which they are so temperamental. Normal riding exercise is not enough.

  • i like it how you film a branch at the beggining of the video :)

  • Beautiful vid, I've re-trained racehorses myself, helped with Thoroughbreds, and I worked on an ex-trotter myself who was a fabulous horse...

Made me tear up a little actually- hehe. :) He's very lucky the two of you found each other, really loved the two of you jumping over that jump side by side...

  • i have that birdle and wintec saddle :P

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!
