Im just glad you told us about F8, My pc has been down for 1 month, but could have been fixed the same day it F***ed up. Thanx ton

System restore, system repair blah blah blah... In my experience as a windows user since Windows 95, no "solution" or "troubleshooter" that Microsoft provides has ever worked. The only real solution is to reinstall everything.. which I need to do on average 2-3 times a year. (Just today my Windows "broke" after installing service pack 1...yay, gonna be a fun Friday evening..)

So I went to the "Advanced Boot Option" (F8) and selected "Repair Your Computer".
My problem is that my screen goes to the blue background but no window shows up...

you fucking rule AMAZING THANKS SO MUCH
Is this running Startup Repair from the Windows boot menu or from the Installation DVD? If it's the former it sounds like the boot partition has become corrupt. If so watch my Repairing Corrupt Boot Files video here, it might help you.

@DSCDude34 Nope, it doesn't, it just fixes any startup problems with Windows it can find :)

@sonicex1318 It sounds like the repair partition on your hard disk is corrupt. You can also access Startup Repair by booting from your Win7 installation DVD. Select "Repair your computer" instead of "Install"

@Stevo4g If Startup Repair can't fix your computer all isn't lost. You can reinstall Windows over the top of your existing installation (do not format the disk) and the installer will copy your existing installation, and crucially your files, to a folder called Windows.old

@icegirl8787 Microsoft have released a new tool you can boot from to clean an infected PC of viruses and malware. It's still in beta but you can download it from their connect beta site
